Is Better Call Saul season 5 underway … at least for the writers?

Better Call Saul season 4

Is there going to be a huge layoff between the end of Better Call Saul season 4 and the start of season 5? On this occasion, it doesn’t quite appear to be the case.

Earlier this fall, even before the end of season 4 on AMC, the writers behind the hit show got back into the room to kick things off for the latest batch of episodes. They’ve been working on season 5 for over a month now and that means that at some point early on next year, the cast and crew may be able to descend on New Mexico again. If that happens, maybe we could see a fifth season at some point in 2019. Given some of the recent history of long waits with this show, we had reason to be concerned that we could be forced to wait until the start of 2020 to see more of what Jimmy McGill / Saul Goodman has up his sleeve.

At the moment, it does feel pretty clear that the Jimmy as we once knew him is gone and that we’ll be seeing Saul turn up in his place. Jimmy’s made the decision to transition over and we’ve got a feeling that this is going to eventually devastate the few meaningful relationships he has left — including the one that he’s got with Kim Wexler. We also do imagine that he’s going to eventually get mixed up more with Mike and Gus given A) where he is right now and B) where he ends up in Breaking Bad. The seeds are being sewn, and the writers are at the moment working on making sure everything is tied up.

What do you think is going to be coming up on Better Call Saul season 5, and do you think that we could actually get some new episodes at some point in the near year? Be sure to share in the attached comments. (Photo: AMC.)
