‘Shiptober 2018: Supergirl’s Kara & Lena (Supercorp) declared the winner!
The final battle itself, which began on October 30, had more than 30,000 votes within a period of just over 24 hours. It was close for some time, but in the end it was Supercorp — otherwise known as Kara & Lena from The CW’s Supergirl — who ended up taking home the prize.

Going into ‘Shiptober this year, it was fair to say that the two characters had a pretty good chance of taking home the grand prize. They have performed well in past tournaments at CarterMatt, but you never want to kick off a series like this with any assumptions. Audiences and trends can change over time, but it’s clear that in the event of Supercorp, this fandom endures. They did not have an easy road to the finale, having to take on such super-powerful ‘ships as Lucy & Wyatt from Timeless, Magnus & Alec from Shadowhunters, Jamie & Claire from Outlander, and then finalle Owen & Amelia from Grey’s Anatomy. In the end, they won with around 61% of the vote.
In the aftermath of this, could it mean more attention for Kara & Lena on Supergirl itself? You have to hope so, though at this point it feels pretty clear that the writers are aware of the popularity of this ‘ship. It’s one that, after all, has been out there for well over a year at this point. It really just comes down to whether or not the writers want to give the two characters more scenes together.
The last question worth pondering here is quickly this: Why isn’t the ‘ship acknowledged more when it comes to other places on the internet? Results like these are proof positive that this is one of the most active and passionate communities out there; with that, they are worthy of so much more recognition than they often receive.
