The Flash season 5: Should we have an episode all about Cicada’s origins?

Flash season 4

This weekend, Supergirl season 4 is going to be taking a risk in doing a big episode about their central villain. Now, should The Flash consider the same thing with Cicada?

At the end of this past episode, we did get a small chance to learn a thing or two more about Cicada — namely that his motivation to rid the world of meta-humans seems to be tied, in part, to who appears to be his daughter, who is sick. Is this sickness caused by meta-humans, or did something happen to her because of one that made her this way? Cicada also seems to have a gash of his own, which could have been caused by meta … or that could be where he absorbs some of their life force in order to stay alive.

Clearly, there’s a lot of mythology here to unpack, and that is in part what makes this character so interesting. He seems to be a little bit more personally-motivated than most other The Flash videos; yet, at the same time, he’s terrifying and extremely formidable. He’s capable of taking on almost any character he comes across (including apparently the entire Justice League) and we want to know how he became this way.

With all of this said, having a big flashback episode at this point in the show’s run feels a little bit early. To us, it would make more sense to do this around episode six or seven, when we understand the character a big more in the present. We think the only reason Supergirl is doing theirs so early is to accommodate Melissa Benoist’s Broadway schedule this summer.
