Outlander gets a custom emoji leading up to season 4 premiere on Starz

Outlander

Starz has officially taken their emoji game to the next level leading up to the Outlander season 4 premiere.

Today, the premium-cable network announced that throughout the upcoming season, tweets featuring either #Outlander or #TheFrasers will be accompanied by a custom emoji featuring Jamie and Claire. This is a mirror to the stance Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe’s characters are making in the key art above, and it’s a nice reminder of two of the show’s main characters leading up to the launch. (Last week, Starz allowed viewers to choose between The Frasers or the Stones as the custom emoji — The Frasers won handily.)

Superficially, what this really means is that there’s another cool way to hype the season. Beyond just that, it does further show commitment in a way that we’ve been talking about a great deal lately. Starz is really going all-out in an effort to make this the biggest season of the series yet — we’ve seen numerous trailers, there’s a screening coming up in Savannah, there was a hefty campaign at New York Comic-Con, and there have even been some early reviews out there. You get the sense that they really want this season to be a major hit, and it makes sense why. Outlander is one of the network’s most-successful series, and all of this promotion is also coming up close to Golden Globes season. In one way or another, we do think that this all helps when it comes to drive more attention to the show among awards voters. Starz is showing that they believe in Outlander and while it may be the fourth season now, they are as invested as they’ve always been. Not every network, after all, chooses to get a custom hashtag out there! (Starz did something fairly similar earlier this year with another one of their hits in Power.)
