Doctor Who season 11 episode 3 ratings fall, but still up versus season 10
To date, we do think that there is quite a bit at the moment to celebrate. The third season of the season ended up generated around 6.4 million viewers, which is down around 600,000 from the audience who watched the second episode. This is no surprise, given that with the hype being what it was for the premiere of the series, we knew the series would start big and then trickle down. The question is just where it is going to level off, and if that will be a number meriting of some fantastic celebrations.
Season 11 is far and away topping season 10 in all of the relevant measurements so far, and we do think that the year-to-year comparison matters greatly here. While the critical reception for Peter Capaldi’s last year was mostly positive, there was a mild amount of concern in the declining numbers — and even some ratings pundits quietly questioning of the show should be put on hiatus for a little while. (We never took much of that seriously, as it seemed to mostly serve the purpose of getting people upset over matters that they really didn’t need to be upset about.)
Hopefully, we will have a little bit more insight on Doctor Who a week from today when the latest numbers come out; yet, we do wonder if on some level, the presence of spiders in this upcoming episode will make some a little bit uncomfortable to watch. Personally, it is far from our favorite thing in the world.
