Supergirl season 4 premiere ratings steady; Charmed reboot starts OK

Supergirl season 4 episode 3

The first Supergirl season 4 premiere ratings are in, and for the most part, The CW has nothing to be upset about.

The first installment of the new season, which featured the arrival of Agent Liberty and also Nia Nal (read our full review here), ended up generating as a whole a 0.5 in the 18-49 demographic. That is fairly close to the premiere numbers for season 3, and most of the ratings for last year as a whole. If it keeps that up, especially in a new timeslot, we’ve got every reason to think that this is a show that will be able to stick around for at least one more season moving forward.

The other good news for The CW, at least for now, is that the new version of Charmed matched that with a 0.5 rating of its own. Yet, the concern here is that this rating is going to drop dramatically over the next few weeks now that the initial hype and curiosity is one of the way. Supergirl already has an established audience; this show doesn’t.

All in all, though, The CW shouldn’t be altogether sad about the performance of their first Sunday night in a long time.

As for some other ratings…

A bad start to Alec Baldwin’s talk show – Baldwin’s first interview generated just a 0.4 rating, which proves further that ABC still has not figured out a way to get ratings Sunday nights at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time. At least Dancing with the Stars: Juniors held fairly steady with its 0.7 rating, which was enough to lead its own timeslot.

God Friended Me boosts itself up – With a 1.1 rating in the demo, the series managed to be the #1 network scripted show of the night. It was lifted somewhat by CBS football airing beforehand, but we doubt the network really cares so long as this sampling helps the series in the long-term. We’re cautiously optimistic about the chances for more episodes beyond the previous 13, though nothing is 100% clear as of yet.
