Shameless season 10: Should Ian and Mickey return?
It is clear to us that tonight’s episode was perfectly designed to give Gallavich a proper ending in the event we never end up seeing the two characters on the show again. There’s nothing that longtime fans have wanted more than to see these two characters happy and in the end, the series tonight provided that.
Can you really be happy in prison? There is absolutely a debate to be had there, but these two at least found some element of peace for each other there.

Yet, the thing about locking these characters up in prison is that at some point, there’s a chance that they could get out … or, that there is a chance that someone could go to prison to see Ian. By not killing him off, the writers gave themselves the ability to find a way to include Ian or Mickey again in the future if the opportunity presents itself. We like to think that Cameron Monaghan would be open to a reprisal of some sort, provided that the stars aligned and it works out for the story.
Basically, keep a possible return in your mind as a possibility, but it definitely felt tonight like Shameless played all of its cards to ensure that this character had the best send-off that he possibly could. The moment with the family was fantastic, and we’ve definitely said much of what we need to about Mickey. It was shorter, and we wish there was more of it, but it was a beautiful recognition of the journey that these two characters had over time.
