Madam Secretary season 5 episode 2 review: Aftermath of an attack

Madam Secretary season 3 episode 19 return date

Tonight, Madam Secretary season 5 episode 2 delivered an episode that had a lot it needed to take on. This is what happens after you have an attack on the White House in the premiere!

In this episode, Henry, Elizabeth, and the rest of the State Department team found themselves in a position where they needed to identify the attacker and his or her motives … which was complicated further by the obvious personal mission at the center of the story. After all, Stevie could have died in the attack, and eventually saw that some of the far-right political figures in this episode wanted nothing more than to see her die.

What made all of this complicated as that there were some ties to Poland among those who plotted the attacks, but Elizabeth still had to do a photo op with the country’s President in a press conference over a new military base. While he may not have been responsible for these attacks, at the same time she made it clear that the country needed to get his house in order. Basically, she wants to apply some pressure on other countries for helping to stop some of the carnage.

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode Russell went over to Henry and made a pretty sharp accusation — did he handle interrogation of one of the young guys responsible for the attack the right way? Was he too harsh … or not harsh enough? In the aftermath of this Russell told Henry that Dalton wanted him to be his ethics adviser, but there is no clear word on where or not he will sign on.

As for why Russell’s so turned up, remember this: Stevie worked under him, and he also lost another longtime adviser in June. It was difficult for him and he beat himself up over what happened.

CarterMatt Verdict

Madam Secretary season 5 episode 2 discussed as a whole optimism under siege, extreme political parties, and whether or not there is a way to stop the madness before it starts. The big problem, as revealed at the end of the episode, is that Russian money was involved in the White House plot. If this information starts to get involved in all of this, eventually what that could mean is an international incident that causes problems for Russia, Poland, and the United States. There are tough political waters ahead for Elizabeth, and this isn’t about stopping one person; it’s about stopping a movement.
