According to a new report from TVLine, the actress (who played Clary for three seasons on the Freeform drama) is going to be appearing throughout the first half of season 7 as Maya, a “scrappy street fighter and thief from Star City.” Apparently, the original casting notice for the role called her “Buffy the Superhero Slayer,” which is certainly a high bar to set for someone. Yet, we know that McNamara has the action chops to pull this off after all of the fight scenes that she did throughout the three years she worked on Shadowhunters.
As for how she factors into the story as a whole, that remains to be seen given that Arrow has been especially tight-lipped about the story this season. The recent trailer (which CarterMatt has for you to view here) makes it clear that Oliver Queen is going to go through a lot in prison, but it is not entirely clear whether or not he will get out anytime soon. The storylines for some of the supporting characters also remain to be seen. It’s possible that Katherine will spend some time with them as we get to understand this character and her journey a little bit more.
Arrow season 7 will be premiering on The CW this October, but the irony here remains that there’s a good chance that we will see McNamara appear on this show before the remaining twelve episodes of season 3 of Shadowhunters comes on the air. (We are expecting those to air on Freeform in 2019.) While at the moment it appears that the Shadowhunters is ending, we do know that the finale was written in such a way that there could easily be more down the road if there is a suitable home that surfaces.
