Blue Bloods season 9 spoilers: Scandal, Veep alum Sumalee Montano to appear

Blue Bloods season 9

Who wants some new Blue Bloods season 9 casting news? This one is interesting, and it could be at the center of a powerful story with Baker somehow involved in it.

In a new couple of posts on Instagram, Abigail Hawk (who plays the aforementioned character on the CBS series) confirmed that ER, Scandal, and Veep alum Sumalee Montano is going to be appearing on the series. While we don’t want to speculate too much on the role or the circumstances of the appearance, the presence of the uniforms (which Baker does not always wear within the Commissioner’s office) suggests that this is a very different sort of story for the character. It could be some sort of 9/11 tribute story, given what you see on many of the uniforms.

It does make sense that Blue Bloods take on a story about September 11 coming up, given that it is one of the most horrific events in US history. We have seen it on the show before in emotional fashion, and the uniforms you see here are similar to the ones that you saw previously. Blue Bloods has long been a show about honoring those who have sacrificed everything for those around them, and in this particular climate where everything can be so divisive, it does make some sense to focus back in on this subject matter in some capacity. It brought people together and focused on the common good that many Americans have. We can never forget what happened then, and the writers of Blue Bloods are clearly very much invested in making sure these heroes are properly honored.

Blue Bloods season 9 premieres on CBS come Friday, September 28 on CBS.
