Last Man Standing season 7: The future of Bud’s Buds
As first reported weeks ago at the time of the show’s TCA Press Tour panel, Robert Forster’s character Bud will have passed on in the time between the end of season 6 and the start of season 7. This is a difficult, emotional thing to take on, but at the same time something that the show producers deemed necessary. They wanted to show the changes that can happen in a family over time, and death is a natural part of life. This may not be a particularly depressing show, but there’s also a desire to not just ignore important life events so that every character can stay the same as they were years ago.
Losing Bud is in some ways a nod to old-school Last Man Standing fans in the first place, as this character has not been featured on the show in a few years.
While the character may be gone, there are clearly still some plans that the producers have when it comes to his aforementioned marijuana dispensary — the sort of thing that Mike isn’t a big fan of. Speaking via TVLine, show executive producer Kevin Abbott makes it clear that “Ryan will be taking over the daily running of the shop” following Bud’s death, so it will still be a part of the family in some shape or form. Will Mike’s philosophy about it changed over time? While he may not be the biggest fan at all, we do wonder if there will be suddenly a sense of nostalgia connected to it that the character did not quite have previously. Think of this as one of the more interesting, emotional questions to ponder leading up to the series’ premiere on Fox come September 28.
