Some of the latest True Detective season 3 details have been revealed via an HBO teaser, and you’re not going to wait too much longer for it!

In the video HERE, you can see a small tease of the epic mystery that is going to unravel in the third season, one that is poised to star Moonlight’s Mahershala Ali as a man having to take on a harrowing crime that haunts him for many decades. His family and everyone close to him ends up feeling the aftereffects of this in one form or another. This season actually does feel fairly similar to season 1 in its structure, though it does seem to also have a little bit of a clearer lead role than that season did. That one was a little bit more about both Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. (There’s still a part of us that dreams for a cameo from either Martin Hart or Rust Coale, even if it seems like a pipe dream along the way.)

With this True Detective season 3 premiere month revealed, our assumption now is that Big Little Lies season 2 is going to air following the conclusion of that, especially given some of the recent comments that were made about Game of Thrones not premiering until potentially late May / June. The first season of True Detective also premiered early on in the year during its run and while there was a lot of competition on the air then, it still managed to deliver some good ratings for itself. That’s the only reason why we have a season 3 in the first place.

We imagine that a formal True Detective season 3 premiere date will be revealed a little bit later this year. As of right now, the folks over at HBO likely recognize that there is no real hurry to do so at this particular moment.
