MasterChef season 9 episode 13 video: Is a double elimination coming?

MasterChef season 9

MasterChef season 9 episode 13 is airing on Fox Wednesday night, and it seems as though a double-elimination is coming along with it.

We are getting close now to the naming of the top ten and judging from the promo that CarterMatt has for you below, there could be two home cooks leaving the competition by the end of the hour. We reported previously that halibut was going to be at the center of this episode, and now we have a better indication as to how that’s going to be coming about. Judging from what we’re seeing here, there’s a pretty good chance that the remaining home cooks are going to have to first properly butcher a halibut, and then from there make a really delicious plate of food with it as the main course. This is not going to be a particularly easy thing to do and given that halibut is a pretty expensive fish, there could be extra pressure here to make it perfect.

One thing that we don’t want to do here is make assumptions that contestants who often work with fish are going to hit this out of the park. We’ve already seen a number of examples of someone’s strength becoming their weakness given on the nature of the challenge in which they are doing. Doing well on MasterChef requires a lot of consistency and for chefs to be able to tune out some of the stress in your life outside the kitchen. Knowing that the top ten of the competition is so close we imagine that the pressure is going to ratchet up to a new level over the course of this episode.

The promo ends with a debate that will probably never be resolved: The correct way in which to pronounce “basil.” Our answer is: It depends on where you’re from. In our house we have many debates over pronunciation of words like “progress” since we have a Canadian and a Texan living together so we know these debates well.
