The Flash season 5 spoilers: Kiana Madeira set to play Spin

Flash season 4

The Flash season 5 is bringing on board the villain Spin — albeit with a twist.

According to a new report via Deadline, Kiana Madeira (Sacred Lies) is poised to recur starting in episode 4 of the season as Spencer Young, who will also presumably go by the aforementioned alter ego. Much like Top, in the comics Spin is actually a male character and was gender-flipped for the show, presumably give the TV Flash a larger array of male and female adversaries.

This is, of course, presuming that Spin is an adversary within the series. We actually do think that the character has one of the most dangerous powers out there, especially in 2018 — the ability to really project fears and anxieties, turning those in part into reality. They are one of the more emotionally manipulative villains out there, and also one probably closer to Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger than many DC villains. Of course, we don’t want to draw any assumptions as to what the TV version of the character could look like, but we’re excited to certainly find out over the course of the next few months.

At the moment, we’re just going to assume that Spencer Young is one of those supplemental villains who we see a handful of times and poses a threat, but not on the same level as the Big Bad. It has already been reported that the real season 5 Big Bad is Cicada, a character who forges his own cult and is able to sap the life-force of others in order to further along his own. This is a different sort of villain than we’ve seen on the series to date, especially if the character’s immortality is preserved on the series. This is a leg up that he will have on Barry and almost everyone else since it comes with a certain ability to take risks without them really being risks. It’s easy to do that when you know it won’t impact you in the long term.
