Shades of Blue season 3 episode 8 review: Harlee vs. Stahl; walls close in

Shades of Blue

Why can’t anything ever be easy for Harlee Santos? We certainly wondered that when it comes to Shades of Blue season 3 episode 8. Right when things started to get a little bit better for her, something else happened that completely threw her for a loop.

Tonight, we saw good news for Harlee come in the death of Bennett, one of the main perpetrators in the intelligence plot and one of the biggest thorns in Harlee’s side. Yet, not too long after that Stahl kidnapped Harlee and, for at least a short period of time, she found herself in a position where her life was on the line. She was able to escape, and in yet another reminder of just how intense Harlee is, she immediately went from being almost-killed in the heat of battle to getting back involved with the rest of her team. This is certainly another reminder of precisely how hardcore she really is. She’s not someone to be trifled with and we certainly think that all of that experience of almost-dying has hardened her, prepared her to be in the thick of battle.

In the end of the episode, Harlee found herself in a situation where she was trying to get ahold of Cole and afraid of Ramsey finding a way in order to take her out. The moment there was a distraction, Cole finally decided to make his move. He jumped out of a building in an attempt to escape, knowing that he was about to be found out as playing both sides.

This is when Woz decided to take matters more of his own hands, using Enrique has leverage in order to get peace with Intelligence. Basically, he wanted a cease-fire and he laid out some of those terms. Whether or not Ramsey actually accepts that remains to be seen. Harlee knew that part of her plan went south because of Stahl turning up, but it seems as though she and the rest of Woz’s team are going to do everything that they can in order to pivot. They are going to need to do so in order to succeed.

This brought us to the end of the episode, where Woz and Harlee were ready to make the exchange … or at least they were before they realized that Ramsey’s mole was a high-ranking person within the department was a mole. Woz, all of a sudden, is a wanted man.

CarterMatt Verdict

Shades of Blue season 3 episode 8 proved itself to be just as intense and dramatic as you probably hoped that it would be from start to finish. With that being said, however, it was clear that the fight for Harlee Santos is still far from over.
