Poldark season 4 finale spoilers: There will be hope for Morwenna

Poldark

Entering the Poldark season 4 finale on the BBC this weekend, it should feel rather clear that there are many different characters all in some extremely-difficult places. George, for example, is wrestling once more with the idea that Valentine is not his child. Meanwhile, Morwenna is wrestling with the fact that she is so traumatized that it is hard to image herself being close to anyone — even Drake, the love of her life. She feels almost doomed to a life of isolation, and told Drake in a conversation on this past episode that even the thought of touching someone else will bring back the memories of her late, abusive husband Osbourne.

So is there still a reason for hope for her happiness? It seems that way, though there is no evidence that it will be tied at all to Drake. In speaking on this subject further to What’s On TV in a new interview, show executive producer Debbie Horsfield had the following to say:

“Morwenna’s story has been particularly harrowing … There are no quick fixes for someone who’s been traumatised as she has, but let’s say there’s more than a glimmer of hope.”

As for the finale itself, Horsfield also added that there will be opportunities to see some characters you haven’t necessarily seen in a while:

“Dramatic, exhilarating, tense, heartbreaking… but ultimately heart-warming! There’s so much story, so many twists and turns, we couldn’t fit it all in! The opening scene will be a surprise and we’ll get to see the return of some familiar faces who came back especially for the finale.”

Given that there is already a season 5 ordered, you can rest easy knowing that there is more of this story on the other side — in the event that the season ends with some sort of devastating cliffhanger. Given that this is the world of Poldark, you do have to assume that such a thing is possible.
