Following tonight’s finale on USA, is there still a chance for a Colony season 4 in the future? Or, is tonight for sure the series finale?
At the moment, it is probably too early to say anything for 100% certain. However, all signs point to tonight being the final episode of the show. Since the news of the series’ cancellation first broke over the weekend, there hasn’t been any substantial discussion about reviving the series. There are still some fans hoping to see more of the show, but we haven’t seen any movement on the public front.
So why was the series canceled in the first place? The answer is fairly simple: Low ratings. The numbers dropped up rather significantly following season 2 and it’s rather hard to see any hope that they will turn around. We’re upset over the cancellation, but you can see some of the reason why in the live numbers … though we do think in the process that USA could have done a better job promoting the series along the way.
Now, as for whether or not there is merit in another network out there picking Colony up, we can’t say that we’re altogether optimistic right now. While we did see The Expanse saved following its cancellation at Syfy, its ratings were about even this season with the year before. A new network wants to feel comfortable with not only where the ratings are, but also where they could be moving forward. This may end up being, at the end of the day, the biggest reason why Colony is unable to find a new home at the end of the day.
If anything ever changes in regards to Colony season 4, we’ll have an update for you here. For now, let’s just hope that everyone out there enjoys the finale and there is a chance for at least some modicum of closure.
