NCIS season 16: What will the next big announcement be?
So what could it be? In this case, the simplest answer is that we’re waiting for news on the forensic scientist position! Due to the exit of Pauley Perrette, that position is now open. The assumption is that Kasie is a strong candidate to take over Abby’s former gig full-time, but even with filming underway now there has been no formal announcement. It’s possible that a completely new character could be introduced, and that’s something else to be considered.
Beyond just the Kacie question, there is one other valuable one to ponder: Whether or not we’re on our way to learning something more regarding another new member of the team. While Abby’s departure ultimately got the majority of the headlines, Clayton Reeves’ death was notable in its own right. While producers may not feel a 100% obligation to fill that role right away, we do think that this is something that they have to be considering at the moment. They have some flexibility here to play around with a character.
Given that NCIS is the most-watched show in the entire world and has a strong legion of fans, we feel like there is only so long that they can keep any/all announcements a secret. With that, we’re anticipating some more news sooner rather than later. Technically, the show does have some time to make things official, given that season 16 does not technically premiere until we get around to Tuesday, September 25. Yet, the longer you go without making an announcement, the more anxious that some people out there are inevitably going to become. It’s just a big part of life when it comes to being a TV fan in the midst of summer hiatus.
