NCIS season 16 spoilers: A past guest star returns!

NCIS

NCIS season 16 is wasting very little time with the callbacks; after all, they’re bringing back someone you haven’t seen in years!

In a new post on Twitter, Chad Lindberg confirms that he is coming back for another episode of the crime procedural — his first one since 2011!

For starters, we love the name and its not-so-subtle nod to competitive eater Joey Chestnut. As for the circumstances that are bringing this character back into the fold, that’s going to be interesting. His last appearance was in the episode “Baltimore,” which was a very important episode unraveling the past of Anthony DiNozzo. With Michael Weatherly no longer on the show (he’s filming Bull, so it’s hard to imagine he would have the time to appear on NCIS on the other side of the country), that raises a number of different possibilities.

Given that NCIS only recently started filming, Lindberg’s appearance this season may be a brief one; yet, it’s always nice when shows honor their history and bring back characters. It’s a nice Easter egg for a number of fans out there and beyond that, it’s a way in which to drive even more promotion to the series. Season 16 is premiering come Tuesday, September 25, and there is a lot that the cast and crew will be taking on almost right away. After all, they have to find a way to take on that fairly-epic cliffhanger that we saw at the end of season 15 regarding Vance’s capture! With this being NCIS, of course we expect a number of other interesting stories and surprises to go along with that. One of the most appealing qualities of a show like this is that it is one that finds a way to continually keep you guessing.
