How Better Call season 4 will inch closer to Breaking Bad stories

Better Call Saul season 4

When Better Call Saul season 4 premieres on AMC in August, the show is going to be moving ever closer to some very important — but also very sacred — territory. While we’re not at the point yet where the show is in the Walter White era, it does appear as though the writers are starting to bring forth stories that connect to that period of time closely. It’s close enough that you can probably picture Walter White turning up and being a part of it in some form, even if he is not actually all that much of a physical presence.

Trying to get specifics as to what’s coming in some of these upcoming stories feels like an almost-impossible feat at this point, but we are happy to get some further news on the subject now. Speaking via Entertainment Weekly, show co-creator Vince Gilligan offered up the following tease to get everyone super-excited about some of what’s coming next:

“We have a subplot that very squarely gets into Breaking Bad territory and brings us into the world — or at least points us on a path toward the world of Walter White and the territory of Walter White … I can’t wait for folks to see that.”

If there is something that we are a little bit more concerned about, it is the idea of spending too much longer beyond this season getting to the era of Breaking Bad. Remember here that the original show only lasted for five seasons, so it’s going to be rather strange if the prequel is starting to take five or six years to even get to the jumping-off point in the original show.

We feel like we’ve made this preference clear in the past, and we’re going to go ahead and make it clear again in the present: We’d love for the entire story of Jimmy in the past to be wrapped up this season, that way we can shift the focus over and tell the story about Jimmy in the future. We want to get to Gene, and we would like to think that there is some sort of larger point to all of the various flash-forwards we have seen over time with this character.
