Will The Originals season 5 episode 12 be a precursor to Legacies in some sense?
With this in mind, we come back to the question at the top of the article: Are we going to get a precursor to the spin-off in episode 12? What we know about this episode, at the very least, is that you’re going to get to see Danielle Rose Russell (the lead of Legacies) alongside Matt Davis (who is returning as Alaric for the new series) over the course of this episode. You can read more about it here, but know that this episode will feature a return to Mystic Falls, popularized back in The Vampire Diaries, coupled with also a return of Candice King and the character of Caroline. We do wonder whether or not she could also return for Legacies in some capacity, but the final episodes of The Originals will likely offer up some sort of information regarding that.
We don’t foresee that 5×12 is going to be a formal backdoor pilot by any means, as Legacies will feature other characters who have not even been announced just yet. Instead, though, it may be a prelude to what you end up seeing in it. We don’t foresee the Originals writers, after all, wanting to spend much time discussing the spin-off in the finale, largely because that is an opportunity to tie together the stories of Klaus, Elijah, and many other characters we’ve known over the past five years. The Originals does need its own legacy separate from the show with a very similar name. They may have similar characters, but they are not the same thing.
