The Good Doctor season 2 spotlight: What’s next for Claire Browne?

In today’s edition of our ongoing The Good Doctor season 2 spotlight series, we’re putting the focus on Dr. Claire Browne. She’s a character who we saw develop a bond with Shaun during season 1 but also deal with a lot of other hardship. Take, for example, being sexually harassed while in the workplace, and then the aftermath of it when Jared found himself out of a job. The two eventually broke up and with Jared now gone from St. Bonaventure completely, there is a new era coming in season 2 for her.

So what do we want to see? Just like many of the other spotlight articles we’ve published, we have a few different suggestions below.

1. More bonding moments with Shaun – With the hospital staff expanding, it does feel more important for Shaun and Claire to build on the relationship that they had in season 1. They’ve been there from the beginning and both characters have a lot of humanity and care for their world around them. They are easily two of the most captivating characters to watch, largely because they are among the most emotionally relatable.

2. Don’t rush into another romance – While it does feel like there’s something that could be there with Dr. Melendez and Claire, we don’t think that there should be any reason to do that right away. For starters, the moral and professional issues there would be extreme given their status at the hospital. Also, we want to understand Claire more as a person before thinking about her in terms of some romantic arc on the series.

3. Give her more opportunities to be the hero – We’ve seen Claire save the day (and patients) already, but that’s something that we’d like to see more of as we balance out many of the victories for the doctors at the hospital. Also, through some of these we may get a better sense as to where Claire fits in at the hospital in the long-term. Eventually, we’re going to have a chance to see this character evolve, and we’re immensely curious to see just where she ends up years down the line. These are the most formative years of her medical career and there is a lot of interesting stuff to explore here.
