Lucifer season 4: Should there be a full-on musical episode?

Lucifer

As we look ahead towards Lucifer season 4 premiering on Netflix in the new year, we certainly have a wide variety of different questions on our mind. The idea of seeing Lucifer Morningstar in a full-on musical episode is just one of them.

When thinking about why the producers would want to go in this direction, that reasoning feels fairly obvious given that Lucifer is a series with a good many musical elements to it. We’ve seen this time and time again and know very well that Tom Ellis has an excellent singing voice. Making an episode all about music just seems to be a fun extension of that and to give other characters some time in the limelight as well. While it’s not entirely clear that every other person on the show can sing, why not explore that anyway? It still does feel as though there are some opportunities for the series to mess around with this and get creative.

Also, this just feels like the sort of thing that is on many fans’ wishlists already, even if musical episodes in general are fairly polarizing. There are some (Scrubs) that are loved, but then also some others that are not exactly appreciated at all. Here, we do think the tone and the style of Lucifer very much makes it a perfect fit. Also, we do think that the show’s writers/producers have some interest in doing a musical at some point. As for whether or not it’s going to be in the fourth season, that remains to be seen.

The big case to do a musical is mostly that it would be a wonderful gift for many fans, especially those who fought hard for a season 4 and want something a little bit special as a celebration. Of course, the downside is that you only have ten episodes for season 4 and since not everyone loves musicals, some may not love what would likely be a diversion from the rest of the story. Personally, we’d love for there to be a musical episode in season 4, but another compromise is this: Doing a special musical event, similar to Psych: The Musical, that exists outside the main order and serves as a bridge between season 4 and a season 5, which we’re already hopeful about since Netflix shouldn’t have just renewed Lucifer to keep it around for one season. That seems like the perfect time to have it, especially since by that point, the series will be more familiar to Netflix viewers.
