What can Lethal Weapon season 3 do to keep viewers, recruit new ones?

Moving into Lethal Weapon season 3, what can be done in order to ensure that the viewership sticks around? This is going to be a pretty big challenge for the folks at the series behind the scenes, especially given the departure of Clayne Crawford and some of the sentiments around that.

Regardless of what reporters or the industry may think about Crawford’s exit, the reality is that nobody can convince viewers what to think about it. If they dislike the move, they can decide not to watch and that presents a challenge. How do you figure out a way to keep viewers invested both in some of the other characters and the show as a whole?

The #1 way in which to effectively do this is to really ensure that the focus is on what the show’s identity is: Fun, action-packed storytelling. Find an adequate way to write out Martin Riggs and allow Seann William Scott to come on board as a character who is not just a carbon copy. If they do the same exact thing with him as Crawford’s character, it’s never going to work. Everyone will just constantly compare the two actors and that’s not going to be a way in which the series can sustain itself in the slightest. The producers need to figure out how to incorporate something new into the show, while at the same time keeping the soul of the original intact.

Also, take your time to present a huge spotlight on Scott’s character. Give him a nice intro in the premiere and then after that, focus on some of the other regulars for a little while. If you go too hard on this character right away, what you are going to do in turn is scare some people off. Patience is a virtue for a show like this and we feel like it should be emphasized right away to make sure that Lethal Weapon still feels like there is some balance in the cast.

Ultimately, the reality is that if there are some people who stop watching due to Crawford’s exit, you can’t control that. Instead, you have to find a way to be as entertaining as possible to everyone else so that they can start to recommend the show to other people again. It’s really one of the only ways to start to turn things around and get Lethal Weapon a season 4.
