Tuesday night’s new episode of Ink Master: Angels is taking you to Phoenix, which is a great city with a lot of flair and different senses of style. What that means here is that you’ve got three very different artists competing for a spot in season 11. These three all have very different stories and personalities — with that, they’ll probably appeal to very different crowds.
Amelia Rose Whitney – She’s got an incredible story as someone who pushed herself really hard to make her dream come true at an early age. She’s a mother doing her best to care for her daughter while also pursuing her dream. Her specialty is watercolor, which we really like for its vibrant colors and unique designs. Just in terms of her tattooing style and personality, she’s the most instantly-likable of the contestants taking part tonight.
Tony Olvera – Tony is one of those old-school artists who has really grinded it out and hustled to get where he is. His specialty is within the world of black-and-grey and it turns out that he and Nikki Simpson already know each other. Given that tattooing is a relatively small community, you can’t be shocked that something like this does happen here and there.
Don Don Hernandez – We instantly get Daniel Silva vibes from Don Don in terms of his story, given that he’s gone through a lot in a short period of time in life — he’s overcome a lot to be in the position that he’s in now as an artist. He doesn’t have a lot of experience, but he tries to make up for that with extreme levels of confidence. If he makes it onto Ink Master proper you can easily see him getting in shouting matches with everyone.
These three on tonight’s episode are tasked with doing cactus-themed tattoos and one of the fun things about this is that they’re all very good! While Amelia’s is the one we appreciate the most stylistically, it’s pretty clear that Don Don and Tony both did more ambitious pieces. This is one of those occasions where the Angels will probably look mostly at execution and technique to figure out who is the winner.
