Riverdale season 2 finale reaction: Archie’s major dilemma

Riverdale season 2 finale

Following tonight’s Riverdale season 2 finale, what’s going to happen next? For Archie Andrews, it’s pretty clear that he is in a world of hurt.

In the closing minutes of tonight’s episode, Archie found himself arrested for a murder he did not commit — instead, he was set up by Hiram Lodge in what is clearly the most terrible move we’ve seen from this character in a sea of pretty terrible moves. He’s seemingly got much of what he wants right now, but this is Riverdale and with that in mind, we know that Jughead, Veronica and Betty are going to do everything they can to help Archie out of this situation.

For a little more information regarding what season 3 could look like in the aftermath of Archie’s arrest, just take a look at what executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had to say to TVLine:

We’ve just started talking about Season 3. There might be a courtroom thriller element to it. There might also be sort of a prison noir element to it as well. We always kind of have crime and noir elements. The prospect of Archie on trial is pretty delicious. And the prospect of Archie in a juvenile detention center is pretty delicious. [Laughs] So we’ll see what’s ahead.

The idea of season 3 revolving around an Archie trial is exciting / interesting for many different ways, especially when it comes to finding a unique way to bring Molly Ringwald back to the show. While her return is not confirmed, we do think that bringing Archie’s mom back is essential given her profession and also with her son being arrested there’s no way she wouldn’t be there for him.

Ultimately, we do think that Riverdale has achieved its most important thing tonight and that is simple: Setting the stage for a season 3 that is different than anything we’ve seen so far. With a show like this, near-constant reinvention is essential to keeping things interesting.
