Three times to run Outlander marathons before season 4 premiere

Outlander marathons

Are there really value in Outlander marathons, or marathons of any show in general? We do think that this is an interesting subject to discuss within the TV community and our answer is rather simple: It really all depends from one show to the next.

When it comes to Outlander, though, we do think that there is a little bit more value than you see with some other shows — and there are a number of different reasons for that.

For starters, just think in terms of timing. When a show like an NCIS is put into marathon form, it doesn’t necessarily mean as much. viewers can check that show out anytime. It’s not as though the average CBS viewer subscribes to that network for a few months and then stops.

However, with Starz things are a little bit different in that this is a network that runs via subscribers. Viewers may get it, watch a show for a month or two, and then get rid of it. The value in Outlander marathons here is exposure. You want to find a way to get people aware of the show whenever they are subscribing. Let’s say someone is getting the network for Power. If there is a way to get them hooked on Outlander enough to keep the subscription until later in the fall, you want to be able to do that.

There’s also a value in Outlander marathons just because of how inherently addicting the series is. Once you watch one episode, there’s a reasonably good chance that you are going to want to watch more. If you can establish that connection point, you’re well on your way to courting a new viewer. It’s different from marathoning a procedural show where viewers can get in and out within a single hour’s time.

There are three times coming up that absolutely do seem perfect for Starz to consider running more Outlander in the future..

Memorial Day – This gives them a chance to get some new viewers who maybe are subscribing right now for either Sweetbitter or Vida. Also, May sweeps is over at this point and viewers may be hungry to check out something else.

July 4 – This holiday is always a time for great marathons since there are many people who don’t particularly love going outside and watching fireworks. Also, this just so happens to be when Power is going to be on the air and there will be a rather large pool of potential subscribers.

Labor Day – Maybe there will already be some Outlander subscribers on board at this time, but this three-day weekend marks a great last-ditch effort to try and secure some more viewers before we get around to the show’s season 4 premiere this fall.

In the end, we’re in the business of getting Outlander the most viewers possible. While a season 5 for the series seems secure, it never hurts to look beyond that into the future.
