NBC picks up comedies Abby’s, I Feel Bad; first details

NBC

NBC has shored up a big chunk of their comedy lineup for the upcoming 2018-19 season, ordering a pair of comedies in Abby’s and I Feel Bad that could stand out from the crowd. They are both unique and hopefully interesting enough to stand out in a crowded field. Also, we hope that they can continue to push the network down a pretty positive trajectory that they are on at the moment with Will & Grace and The Good Place.

Here’s a little bit of what we know about these two shows at the moment.

Abby’s

Logline – “Abby’s is an unlicensed bar in San Diego where the regulars enthusiastically enforce a unique set of rules that give them a sense of community and allow them to avoid the frustrating behavior found at other establishments.”

Cast – Natalie Morales, Neil Flynn, Nelson Franklin, Kimia Behpoornia, Jessica Chaffin, Leonard Ouzts

Our first reaction to this is that it’s almost Cheers for 2018 and it’s got a really fun premise behind it. Also, this will make the third straight show for Flynn, who has been on the air consistently ever since the first season of Scrubs.

I Feel Bad

Logline – “Emet is the perfect mom, boss, wife, friend and daughter. OK, she’s not perfect. In fact, she’s just figuring it out like the rest of us. Sure, she feels bad when she has a sexy dream about someone other than her husband, or when she pretends not to know her kids when they misbehave in public, or when she uses her staff to help solve personal problems. But that’s OK, right? Nobody can have it all and do it perfectly.”

Cast – Sarayu Blue, Paul Adelstein, Aisling Bea, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, James Buckley

In terms of exploring insecurity this show could be an especially fun one, but the logline itself doesn’t offer up too much information about the story other than precisely who Emet is.
