The Last Man on Earth season 5 renewal: Could it happen on Fox?
Going into this last episode it’s clear that there is some doubt when it comes to the Will Forte series’ future. In terms of the 18-49 demographic the series drew in total a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic this season. We’re talking solely in terms of the live+same-day ratings here, and we’re very well aware of the fact that there could be some other measurements that are tabulated for the show including DVR ratings, internet streams, and of course the series’ overall success all over the globe.
Yet, it is very well possible that none of this could be enough to save the show and The Last Man on Earth is airing its final episode tonight. The series is a toss-up for renewal at best, and there could be a few different things that hurt its renewal odds.
1. The status of other Fox shows – We consider The Mick, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Ghosted to all be in a similar amount of danger moving into the next week or so when most series’ futures will be decided. Maybe a couple of these series will be renewed but that’s the most we expect. (Remember that New Girl is officially ending this season.)
2. Fox losing a couple of programming hours this fall – Due to Fox scoring Sunday Night Football on Thursday nights, they are going to have fewer spots for shows available than they have in the past.
3. Fox potentially picking up Last Man Standing – If they do that, it means one fewer comedy half-hour this upcoming season. They could also pick up another show to be a companion to it that fits its tone and audience. If they happens, then all of a sudden two comedies could be displaced.
What we’re trying to say here is rather simple: We’re worried that there’s not going to be another season.
