MacGyver season 3: Should we see more Oversight?

MacGyver

Following last night’s finale, should we get to see more Oversight on MacGyver?

At this given point in time, it definitely feels like the show is in a very unique position. With Mac’s dad now a part of the on-screen universe there are some opportunities to explore this character — we can learn more about what he’s been up to over the past couple of decades and also see more of how he navigated Mac through some of his tough choices in life from afar. Given that he is also the real boss of the Phoenix Foundation there could also be opportunities to explore this more in relation to some of the show’s signature missions. He could be the one giving orders from time to time or helping out with cases.

Of course, seeing Oversight more does come with more questions. What does it mean for Matty Webber if he’s around handing out cases? We also like the team dynamic as it is. Our feeling at the moment is that it would be great to have Tate Donovan recur as the character in season 3 — maybe he is not someone you get to see every episode, but it would be nice to get him around for maybe four or five episodes a season. Think along the lines of a Murdoc. (With that in mind, wouldn’t it also be great to be able to see Murdoc face off against Oversight in some capacity?)

Beyond just Oversight, there are still some other questions when it comes to season 3. For example, when will Mac re-join the team, if ever? Also, what does Leanna joining mean for her relationship with Bozer? Could some other team members eventually quite alongside Mac? There are a number of interesting things worth figuring out and hopefully, season 3 will answer some of these in the early going. The earliest the show will return is in the fall, but hopefully, we’re going to have more updates on that subject before then.
