The Blacklist season 5: Is Lillian Jennifer Reddington?
So is Lillian, who has been helped by Ian Garvey for quite some time, actually be Jennifer? Based on what showrunner Jon Bokenkamp told Entertainment Weekly, that seems to be very much the case:
It is most likely the truth. Viewers might remember that as far back as season 2, we had introduced a character whose name was Jennifer Reddington and who was MIA. Reddington was looking for her. The woman’s mother, Naomi Hyland, played by Mary-Louise Parker, was protecting her and wanted nothing to do with Reddington. Reddington had no access, no way to contact her and couldn’t find her. And so there is a character out there who we know to be Reddington’s daughter and this woman, it seems that her foot may fit the slipper.
Ultimately, we do think that this reveal ends up changing things in a few interesting ways. For starters, it’s possible that Jennifer knows many things about her father that nobody else does. She could prove to be very dangerous to Reddington in that way, as well. We’ve been holding firm to a theory for a long time that this Reddington is not the same one who was around years ago — this one could be an imposter. Would she be able to figure that out? Beyond just that, it’s also possible that her connections to Garvey could make things a little bit more complicated. Elizabeth having a half-sister who may have her opinions of her own towards Garvey could complicate how she feels about her own mission to take him out.
We do love The Blacklist when it is good and messy like this and with that in mind, we definitely do think that this twist executes that. Also, it starts to tie together some other loose ends that we’ve wondered about for some time. We weren’t actually sure that we were going to ever see Jennifer in the flesh!
