Lethal Weapon season 2 episode 18 review: Will Riggs help his father?

Lethal Weapon season 2

Tonight, Lethal Weapon season 2 episode 18 told a story that revolved around many different things — but, at the forefront of most of them was understanding.

When it comes to the character of Riggs, he did his best to understand his father a little bit better, though it took him paying a visit to a Texas prison in order to do that. There was an attempt to bond and also a few questions about debt. Does Riggs owe him anything at all at this point? Riggs is right that it’s fine for him to hate his father; yet, he cannot really carry a conversation on the subject without getting altogether angry about it.

The sad news for Murtaugh was that his father was getting routinely attacked in prison. If he stayed behind bars, he would probably die in the midst of a gang war. If he helped him, over time he may be able to get him released. This is the central dilemma for him moving forward.

Meanwhile, when it comes to Murtaugh he was struggling with his daughter Riana. He had the immense challenge of trying to find a way to give her proper driving lessons; which, as it turns out, he was terrible at because he was far too hard on her. This was the case of an overprotective father doing just that — intimidating the heck out of her to the point that by the time she actually went to take the test, she bombed it.

As for the case itself the entire team found themselves in a rough position dealing with a case involving Frankie Kelso. Why is that? It’s because he confessed, which made matters a little bit difficult. How do you make it clear that someone didn’t commit a crime when they claim that they did? Obviously, Frankie was out to protect somebody and just didn’t want to admit to it.

Ultimately, Riggs and Murtaugh took Frankie out into the field in order to ensure that they could catch the real culprit.

What was special about this case was more about how it connected to Riggs’ past and, in turn, just how Riana’s story ended up factoring into it. After Frankie was shot Riana called for his last-minute advice before going in and taking her test for the second time. Frankie unfortunately died not too long after the call and before Murtaugh could give him any help.

In the aftermath of the case Riggs struggled with the question of how to celebrate Frankie who has a history of doing some bad stuff; yet, in his old age he wasn’t really too much of a threat to anyone.

Here’s the good news: Riana passed the test! Now, Murtaugh has to be nervous about that.

CarterMatt Verdict

Tonight’s episode of Lethal Weapon proved itself to be an outstanding showcase of our main characters and the relationships that they keep. This was one of the stronger, more personal episodes of the season.
