Finale Forecast: How will The Flash season 4 wrap up story of DeVoe?

Grant Gustin

The Flash season 4 finale is set to air on The CW later this spring, and more so than perhaps any other CW superhero show right now there is a sense of mystery around it. Not only is there no clear indication at the moment regarding how this story will end, there’s not even a clear indication surrounding which body The Thinker will inhabit by the time the closing minutes come around. It really wouldn’t even be shocking at this point if the character finishes things off in Dibny’s body and that the team is forced to battle against one of their own.

At this point, though, what does feel clear is that we are seeing what is absolutely one of the most exciting conclusions to a season in quite some time. It’s hard to really say anything else when you think for a minute about all of the different tools that they have given DeVoe to play with. Given that this isn’t just another speedster, it presents a different, interesting sort of problem for Barry to have to tackle. That’s fun, but the DeVoe story is not the only one that the series does need to conclude by the closing minutes of the finale. There are a few others that they really should tackle.

1. What’s going on with the Mystery Girl? – While it’s possible that she does play a role in the story this season before things end, we actually prefer the idea that she is more intimately involved in season 5 and this move is representative of the writers really thinking FAR into the future with a character that could be many different things — the Dawn Allen theories are out there, but we do think that it’s equally interesting if this character does turn out to be evil.

2. Will Dibny stick around with the rest of the team? – There is an interesting question here mostly because there is a history of characters who join the STAR Labs team tend to bow out after a year or so. Look at what happened to either Julian Albert or, to a certain extent, Wally West. They are both out there but we haven’t had a chance to see either in some time.

3. Is Harry going to turn evil? – We hope not, but the series cannot quite shy away from that possibility since he created that thinking cap that easily could have some adverse effects on him. We’ve seen this story play out so many times within the past that it’s pretty impossible to ignore this as a possibility.

4. Will we meet any other season 5 characters? – We liked the idea of The Thinker being implanted into season 4; with that in mind, it would be rather fun to learn a thing or two in the finale about what could be coming up down the line — think in terms of the visions Barry had at the end of season 1.
