NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 midseason spotlight: The future for Marty Deeks?
For starters, let’s look at the obvious elephant in the room: The engagement between Deeks and Kensi. If you were to ask many Densi fans out there what they wanted to see in the second half of the season, they’d probably utter the same reply: A wedding! We’re right there with them, provided of course it is the right wedding.
If there is one thing we are somewhat worried about when it comes to Densi wedding prospects as we start to push forward into the second batch of episodes this season, it’s the thought of the series rushing things along or tacking on a wedding onto the finale. We don’t want that. What the producers really should be considering is trying to figure out a way to give the two parties a whole episode themed around the ceremony; maybe there is a case that somehow gets intercut with it, but we don’t want the wedding itself to only be a minute or two of the episode.
NCIS: Los Angeles is a show that is about constant cases that the team needs to resolve and there is a line that needs to be towed there — you want some of the romance and the classic Deeks humor, but you also want some action and some cases where you get a chance to see the team take out the bad guys.

Beyond just romance, there are some other interesting avenues to explore — including the relationship he has with his mother. It would be great to explore that in a way that is a little more serious in the second half of the season and a little less comical. It would also be great to explore maybe some more characters and connections from Marty’s young adulthood, or possibly even some other familiar faces from the LAPD. This is a dimension of the show that he can offer that really nobody else can. Why not work to explore that even more if at all possible?
Above all else, though, the one thing we want is this: More of Deeks undercover. There are very few things within the entire NCIS: Los Angeles universe that we appreciate more than this.
