New Shadowhunters season 3 promo all about Malec
If you look below, you can see the new promo that CarterMatt has for you and it’s all about Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood, one of the show’s longest-lasting relationships and clearly one of the most beloved. These two characters have been through a lot already, and that’s not going to change. Yet, this promo is a nice reminder that they have each other to rely on and they will be there for each other through thick and thin. No matter what else they’ve got going on, they at least know that they are going to be there for each other. They’ll tackle the tough times together and do what they can to ensure that the other is safe.
Given that Magnus is going to be putting his life on the line (judging from this promo), the bond between the two is going to be more important than ever. Probably the best moment of the entire promo is Magnus making it clear that he’s got a pretty good reason to fight his way back to him.

Looking beyond the promo itself
We do think it says a lot that Freeform released an independent promo focusing on these two characters. Typically on television the LGBTQ relationship is one that is viewed as a sideplot or not altogether important to the main story; here, Shadowhunters is throwing them right into the spotlight and recognizing the importance of this love story. In making it one of the most stable relationships on the show, it also sets an example that we would hope other networks will follow in the future.
Shadowhunters season 3 premieres on Freeform Tuesday, March 20, so we have a feeling that the writers aren’t going to make you wait all that long to get some more prominent Malec story.
