How does Wally West join Legends of Tomorrow season 3?

Into its its big return tomorrow on The CW, how does Wally West join Legends of Tomorrow season 3 and become integrated in with the team? On paper, this certainly does not look like a plan that would happen altogether easily. These heroes are all off currently traveling through time, and with that, it doesn’t really feel like there are many realistic scenarios in which Wally would collide with some of the various members of the Waverider.

Then again, this is a big part of the fun with Legends of Tomorrow — sometimes, the writers find the way to make even the greatest of ideas possible. That includes figuring out a way to get this speedster aboard this ship.

In speaking on how this move happens story-wise a little bit later this season, executive producer Marc Guggenheim had the following to say to Entertainment Weekly:

“We’re basically following his trajectory from The Flash. He’s gone on a walkabout, and he kind of feels like he doesn’t fit in anywhere, which makes him perfect for Legends because Legends is a whole team full of people who don’t fit in anywhere. So, Wally is basically brought to the team by Rip Hunter, of all people — so you will definitely see him back — and once he meets them, he decides this is a really good group to stay with.”

Bringing Wally on board is exciting since he’s got some enthusiasm and reckless energy that the team needs, and he also has a great deal of skill as a speedster. This does still raise, though, another pretty interesting question: Is Wally almost too powerful for his own good? He’s by far the most powerful out of anyone on the ship and we imagine that this is going to be a writing challenge given that seemingly, Kid Flash could just run circles around Damien Darhk and cause him all sorts of problems. The team has to get creative finding a way around that.
