Madam Secretary season 4: Now that Dalton’s health is on track, what’s next?

Madam Secretary

President Conrad Dalton has always been a man we like watching as President on CBS’s Madam Secretary. He was the one we wished others would be. He listened to his advisors and he did what he thought was right and as a result he and his team solved problems. However, he hit an obstacle this season. After Dalton’s bizarre outburst that almost resulted in a world war and him as a ousted president, doctors discovered it was the result of a tumor. So now that Dalton has recovered and its back to his normal self, what else will season 4 bring? Here’s what CarterMatt would like to see.

More tension between Dalton and Elizabeth – Despite Dalton being completely outrageous during “Sounds and Fury”, we like to see him and Elizabeth at odds with each other. Now it was to the extreme during this episode, but we liked the idea that Elizabeth had some to challenge her. Elizabeth needs someone like this in her life, someone who pushes her and who she pushes back at. We all know that politics isn’t easy and sometimes Dalton and Elizabeth’s work relationship seems too easy. We want to see more of when the two aren’t on the same level. They can still respect each other, but some tension would be great.

Looking to the future – We know Dalton still has a few years left in his term, but he must have some idea what he would like to do once his time as President is done. So is Elizabeth truly the person he wants to succeed him, or does he have someone else in mind? That’s what we want to get a glimpse of this rest of the season. It would be interesting if he had someone else in mind because from an outsider’s perspective, we expect that eventually Elizabeth would be President. However, we know that won’t happen for awhile. Besides if Dalton puts his support in someone else, more storytelling opportunities open up.

The rest of this season has high hopes for us and as we have mentioned in our other character spotlight articles we want to see the trajectory of the show. If CBS grants the show a fifth season how will this season lead us into it? That’s mostly what we want from the remainder of season 4.
