The Midnight, Texas season 2 renewal wait continues
Earlier today, the news was handed down that show actress Parisa Fitz-Henley is going to play Meghan Markle on an upcoming Lifetime movie about her relationship with Prince Harry. With that, we do understand the questions starting to come in as to what this means for the future of the NBC show. For the time being, we don’t think it means all that much at all. Lifetime movies notoriously have a pretty short production window — the Markle – Harry project is not going to take all that much time and, in theory, this should not impact all that much.
The unfortunate realization is this: The longer NBC waits to announce the future of the series, the more unlikely that it will be back this summer. As it is right now, it’s going to be incredibly challenging to get the series back on the air in July. The renewal allows the writers to get to work; it’s not as though the renewal happens and the show just goes into production right away.
Admittedly, we’re surprised that Midnight, Texas remains in such a firm holding pattern given that, for the longest time, we did bank on a renewal happening here in some shape or form. While the ratings weren’t spectacular, they were solid for a summer show. It also had a devoted following who is still asking questions about the show’s future. As a matter of fact, there’s been very little progress since the last time we wrote about the show. That was all the way back in October.
If NBC had quietly canceled the show, wouldn’t it have come out? We like to think so. Maybe this is going to just be one of those series that ends up getting inserted into the 2018-19 broadcast season. Or, maybe it’s possible that NBC is waiting until they see some of their upcoming pilots before they make a firm decision.
