Once Upon a Time loose ends: Who is Lily’s father?
Think back to a few years ago. It was at this point that the Maleficent / Lily storyline was really in high gear, and at the time we learned quite a bit about how Lily was one the way to fill the void left in her mother’s heart. This was a story that checked off many of the boxes in terms of what we love about Once Upon a Time as a series: It touched on family and characters fighting through thick and thin in order to be there for one another.
Yet, for whatever reason the producers never addressed the question at the heart of the article. The identity of Lily’s father. We’ve seen rumors tracing this back to everyone from Merlin to The Dragon to characters we have never even met before, but there has never been a definitive name. Meanwhile, there really haven’t been all that many clues over the years. For a while it seemed as though this was something that producers were planning to address; now, it seems like we’re venturing more into the territory of this never being brought up again. We’ve moved so far past when Lily and her mother were on the series that it would almost be a challenge to bring them back now. Emma is gone from the show, and while Regina and Maleficent certainly have a history, she doesn’t know Henry as an adult. There aren’t many connections out there with any of the residents of Hyperion Heights.
If this mystery is ever going to be addressed, it would probably need to be a component in an arc that brought back some other Once Upon a Time favorites — or cleverly implanted somewhere as an Easter egg for fans. We’ve all waited for so long to learn about Lily’s father, but this feels for now like a story that the producers always intended to get around to but never were able to find that place.
