Could The X-Files season 11 episode 5 loop William back in?

Will The X-Files season 11 episode 5 be the installment that actually introduces William to the world of the series? It does certainly seem as though it’s possible. William is a cornerstone of the series and while there are still five episodes after this one, why wait? Why would you not give your viewers what you want a little bit earlier? It’s something that is worth at least some sort of conversation. It would give you a chance to get to know the William character a little bit better, and that is something that could be really appreciated given what we know about him now. There was a little bit of intrigue that came out courtesy of when The X-Files had William as the child of Scully and Mulder; now that we know the truth, things are a little bit different.

(Let’s be clear — we do still hate the twist of the Cigarette Smoking Man “implanting Scully with science.” The implications of that are uncomfortable and unneeded. We’re just not going to punish the William character for it; those who want to punish the show itself, we get that.)

When a pair of teenage girls attack one another, each believing the other to be a monster, Mulder and Scully find that their investigation could possibly lead back to their long-lost son, William, in the all-new “Ghouli” episode of THE X-FILES airing Wednesday, Jan. 31 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), on FOX.

This is an interesting episode given that on the surface, it doesn’t feel as though it’s going to have any sort of huge, tangible connection to what is going on with William — after all, it sounds like we’re just getting a standard monster-of-the-week episode. On the other side of that, though, we could be inching closer to finally getting more information and insight on a cornerstone of the series in William. His status, and his future, are paramount to better understanding how the show continues and how the story of Scully ends. We don’t think that anything is going to change Gillian Anderson’s mind at this point.
