The X-Files season 11 episode 4 preview: What’s the Mandela Effect?

What is the Mandela Effect? There’s quite a bit of information out there about it, as it explores the idea of parallel universes and you somehow knowing alternate paths. It’s an interesting subject, one that The X-Files season 11 episode 4 will explore.

One of the only things more interesting than the concept behind this idea is the title for the upcoming episode itself: “The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat.” Out of all of the things in which the show producers / writers could have named this episode (especially Darin Morgan, who is really at the center of it), this is what you go with? We don’t exactly think that forehead sweat is something lost on anyone. It’s really just gross more so than anything else.

Anyhow, let’s not get caught up on the forehead sweat of it all (sorry for throwing that mental picture out there one more time) — let’s get to the story of this episode itself since it does feel very much interesting. The new X-Files season 11 episode 4 synopsis below offers up some additional insight into what’s coming moving forward:

Exploring the idea of The Mandela Effect, in which large groups of people remember an alternate history, Mulder and Scully learn how The X-Files themselves may have originated in the all-new “The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat” episode of THE X-FILES airing Wednesday, Jan. 24 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), on FOX.

While having an X-Files origin story in itself is very compelling, one of the things that we find intriguing about this story on a meta level is how we’re basically getting a chance to dive into something that is thematically becoming a hot topic all of a sudden in parallel universes. It’s interesting how concepts like this come in waves. Starz’s upcoming Counterpart is based on a similar subject, whereas you can argue that The Flash and the entire CW superhero universe is doing something reasonably similar with all of its different Earths within the multi-verse. From an acting standpoint we understand why this has to be so much fun; you get to take on so many versions of what would otherwise be the same character. Who wouldn’t want that?
