Scandal season 7 episode 9: If Quinn survives, how could it happen?
Superficially, it is probably easy to draw a terrible conclusion that assumes the worst — that we are going to be seeing Quinn killed by Rowan. We had a funeral for her, and everyone on the series at this point is currently operating under the assumption that the character is in fact dead. We understand both the sentiment and the assumption, given that the writers don’t want you to think anything otherwise.
Now, we move forward with the following question: In the event that Quinn did somehow survive, how did it happen? Was there a way for her to emerge through some of the rubble still breathing? This episode will give you answers, but there are easily some ways in which Rowan could be keeping her alive and feeding false information (and even a false body) to Olivia Pope and everyone else.
One of the big things to remember with Rowan is simply that he always has another agenda, even if he is not altogether keen most of the time on sharing what this said agenda is. In this case, it could very well be him thinking that he could exploit some of Quinn’s master-gladiator skill set for his own purposes. If he determines that there are some effective ways for him to use Quinn, it really should not come as much of a surprise that he would keep her alive and then hold her hostage to do his bidding — if she doesn’t, he could always threaten the life of her new baby. It’s also possible that she is still holding information that he needs and keeping the baby alive is his form of torture. If either one of these scenarios are what is going on here, though, there are still questions. For starters, why does he have a baby room set up? Why is he keeping up that facade? He may not have wanted Charlie to see the baby at the end of this past episode, but there was still a vibe of him keeping up appearances.
We presume that it is very well possible that Quinn is dead, but that seems to be far too boring an outcome, especially for a show like this.

This episode was actually filmed before the one airing this past Thursday; they were shot out of order to accommodate Katie Lowes’ maternity leave.
