Will The Good Doctor episode 11, entitled “Islands,” pick up where the story left off with the winter finale? It will, but it will also kick off another chapter in Shaun Murphy’s life.
“Islands” is set to be a two-episode arc, and at the center of it is going to be Freddie Highmore’s character on a trip. After the confrontation with Dr. Glassman and his decision to leave over feeling the pressure to adhere to the advice of others, Shaun will spend some time with Lea. They are going to leave his old world behind, at least for the time being, and he will have a chance to think more about whatever he wants his future to be. Or, maybe he will not think about anything at all. This is the opportunity for him to find an escape, and we imagine that this could be both healthy and unhealthy for him at the same time. Being a doctor is a dangerous job with a ton of responsibility; given the battles that Shaun is already fighting, having more lumped on top of that can be difficult. Yet, he needs to be able to conquer battles to move forward.
Insofar as discussing the psychology of Murphy, The Good Doctor episode 11 is going to be one of the best episodes of the season.
As for what else is ahead, we imagine that much conversation is going to remain on Jared after being fired in the winter finale. While he may have had an altercation, it was in protection of someone else. To go along with that, he was trying to protect someone he cared about from sexual harassment. We know that this is a story far from over, but the writers may not want to rush addressing it right away. They may instead opt to give this story some time to breath a little bit before doing something more with it.
