This Is Us season 2 episode 12: The ‘Clooney’ debate

This Is Us season 2 episode 12 is going to be coming your way on January 16 but there is one thing that is going to stand out about it in advance to many people out there: The episode title of “Clooney.” What does that mean? Is this just a reference to the great George Clooney? That may be the initial assumption to make, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that the former ER star is going to be making a cameo.

We feel like the title, at least judging from our perception of where This Is Us is in its story at the moment, is mostly a philosophical take on where Kevin Pearson is as a person at the moment. As you may recall, Kevin is a man who, as of late, has struggled mightily with the notion of who he is and also how he is perceived. This broken sense of perception is what has caused him to spiral further. For much of his adult life in entertainment, he has likely been able to skate by on the feeling that he can just smile, put on a great performance, and then all of the troubles in his life will be overlooked. He’s smart and charismatic; with that of course comes a sentiment that he can use his suave demeanor to push through any problem in his way.

01/16/2018 (09:00PM – 10:01PM) (Tuesday) : Kate goes wedding dress shopping. Kevin embraces a new lifestyle while Randall explores William’s past. Jack and Rebecca take the kids to the mall.

Aside from Kevin’s story in the wake of his substance abuse, it is pretty clear that there are a few other interesting avenues to explore within this episode. Take, for example, an opportunity to learn more about Randall through the lens of what his father William went through. Meanwhile, there is also intrigue in Kate trying to prepare for the next happiest moment of his life in the wake of a recent tragedy. Can she push forward and not think too much solely about her painful? The flashback story with Jack and Rebecca feels on the surface innocuous, but we know better than to draw any immediate conclusions based on what is being teased here.
