Why are there no Law & Order: SVU Funko Pop figures?

Over the past couple of years Funko Pop figures have become somewhat of a trend across the greater entertainment industry. There are a wide array of shows that have them, whether it be widespread hits like Stranger Things, network shows like The Blacklist, or even some cable shows like Mr. Robot who have a smaller but more loyal following.

Earlier this week, we pondered as to why in the world there were no NCIS Funko Pop figures given that this is one of the most-watched series all over the globe. Now, we’re back to do the same exact thing in regards to another show in Law & Order: SVU. How in the world is there no collectible Olivia Benson figure? We know that there are probably some custom-made ones out there, but we’re speaking here about one of the most recognizable and iconic figures in television history. If a barely-remembered character from Game of Thrones can be immortalized in Pop form, why not Benson?

To us, the fact that SVU is a serious show or one with an older audience shouldn’t be held against it — Funko Pops are celebrations of fandoms and there are few better fandoms out there than SVU Diehards. These are people who look up to Benson and Mariska Hargitay and would probably buy one of these in droves.

What also makes the SVU omission a little bit shocking is that it would have been so easy for Funko to come up with a complete set of characters. Traditionally, Funko has a tendency to release many of their Funkos in batches of five or six characters. With SVU, the list of characters to include is pretty clear-cut: You’ve got Benson, Rollins, Fin, Barba, and Carisi. Five Funko Pop figures for each of the five main characters on the show. We’re a Funko Pop collector for a few different figures and we know the excitement that can come with finding one that is missing from your collection.

Our hope now is that at some point by next Christmas there could be some more SVU Funko Pops out there — and maybe also some other NBC shows, as well. In between Casey, Severide, and Dawson, you can make a pretty good case for the Chicago Fire crew, as well.

New episodes of Law & Order: SVU are going to air starting on Wednesday, January 3.
