Netflix promotes Mindhunter season 2 on Christmas with egg salad

Mindhunter season 2 premiere date

While Mindhunter season 2 is still very far into the future, that’s not stopping Netflix from coming out and trying to promote the show now.

In a new video posted on Christmas Eve, the series shared what has to be one of the stranger, creepier ways to promote a show out there. The video is really just a couple of minutes watching notorious serial killer Ed Kemper (played on the show by Cameron Britton) eat an egg salad sandwich. That’s it. There is a clear connection to this and the show itself, as Kemper uses egg salad at times as currency within prison. He can make people feel comfortable with it — it’s one of the jail’s specialty! Despite his horrible history and murderous ways, Kemper has charisma. He knows that, and he knows how to channel that. One of the big struggles for the characters on the show is reconciling one part of who he is with what he’s done.

Mindhunter was a hit almost immediately for Netflix upon launch, and with a cast including the likes of Jonathan Groff, Anna Torv, and others, we’re honestly not surprised. We hope that the second season will premiere next year. It’s a twist on the classic crime TV story of good guys trying to stop bad guys, mostly in that it’s about trying to understand the mind just as much as it is the nature of the crime itself. Britton steals almost every scene he’s a part of in the first season — it’s highly recommended viewing in the event you’ve got a little bit of downtime over the holidays.

Now that we’ve said that, we’re not entirely sure you should watch it on Christmas — or late at night — unless you really want to be completely freaked out. This show is more terrifying than most just because so much of it is based on real events. It’s far more disarming than watching some characters track down and examine some fictional character. The truth here is easily far more disturbing than fiction.
