The latest Chicago Med season 3 ratings are in courtesy of NBC, and they continue to give us hope for the show’s future.
While the vast majority of the time shows fall week-to-week following the premiere episode, that didn’t quite happened here. Buoyed by the strong performance of the This Is Us season 2 fall finale (which drew a 2.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic, easily enough to win the night), this past episode of Chicago Med generated as a whole a 1.3 rating. That’s about even in the demo versus the week before.
What is perhaps all the more impressive for Chicago Med comes via the realm of total viewers — with 7.87 million people watching the show, you’re looking at the show’s best ratings since March. It’s also better than the average viewership for season 2 by a fairly wide margin.
CarterMatt is singing the praises of the Chicago Med ratings because if the series keeps this kind of momentum going a season 4 is a given. Here is where things get a little tricky: Chicago Med benefits heavily from having This Is Us air before it on the schedule. The next two episodes should offer up opportunities to see just how this show fares without having the big lead-in on the air. If it generates somewhere close to the ratings it has the past two weeks, we’ll be a little more optimistic about its future. If it falls by more than 30%, we’ll be a little more concerned. We love Chicago Med and want to see it continue to perform well!
As for some other news on the night, the Crisis on Earth-X crossover concluded with both The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow generating in total a 0.9 rating. This marks the best ratings for the latter show since the crossover last year, and The CW has to feel good about the consistent performance of all of these shows from start to finish with this massive crossover event. Of course, the problem that they’re facing now is trying to figure out a way in which to get viewers to stick around and watch some of these superhero shows that aren’t The Flash, which is the highest-rated in their superhero universe by a fairly wide margin.
