Outlander season 3 episode 11: The other side of Claire’s big leap

Outlander season 3 episode 11 is not airing on Starz until Sunday night, but thanks in part to the Thanksgiving holiday Starz is giving us a taste of some promotional material earlier than usual.

With that in mind, we’re able to offer some analysis on what is to us a rather curious subject of conversation: Claire being an anachronism (almost in reverse of the way the word is often used) in the 18th century. This is a subjecthe show doesn’t touch on all that much, largely because Claire didn’t come back into the past with an iPad or a bunch of other technological advances. She was from the 1940’s originally, an era where technology wasn’t so omnipresent that she would struggle to live without it. She’s been able to disguise herself very well … but that could change in the near future.

In a new sneak peek that you can see over at Town & Country for the upcoming episode Sunday, a zipper of all things could lead to some serious drama … or at the very least some curiosity. At the end of this past episode, Claire made the decision to jump overboard off of the ship The Porpoise in hopes of finding a way back to Jamie. Even if the Artemis was in the distance and she wasn’t that far from making it there, unfortunately she is not going to arrive to her desired destination.

Instead, she will have washed up ashore on a local island, and while there a mysterious woman will be taking care of her. Everything seems to be going according to plan … at least until she sees a zipper on one of Claire’s garments.

Is this going to change anything for Claire? If this woman was especially inquisitive, we think that it could be; yet, it should be easy enough for Claire to be able to explain this. She can claim that it is just some new invention from the future and hopefully the woman doesn’t have the resources or the contacts to do anything about it. The one major risk that is present here is that if this woman is able to start spreading this of this invention around, what it could mean. in turn. is that there could be a ripple effect. She’s already changing history by being there with Jamie, and sometimes the smallest things can spread outward and cause all sorts of chaos to the timeline.
