It’s going to be a wild ride starting on January 17 as the next season of American Crime Story takes on the assassination of Gianni Versace.
FX released the first trailer of the new season (which you can check out below). The trailer opens with the obvious and that’s the murder of the fashion designer on the steps on his villa. It’s a bloody scene as Versace’s sister, Donatella (Penélope Cruz), grieves his death telling the audience that his company was his life and legacy. Fans were even given a glimpse of Antonio D’Amico (Ricky Martin) covered in his partner’s blood after finding him dead on the steps. It’s a sad scene to watch, however, that’s when the mood changes.
The trailer flashes to Versace’s killer, Andrew Cunanan (Darren Criss). The trailer introduces him as dominant hustler with a means streak and the police know he has already killed four men. However, the series will also focus on Cunanan’s thinking. Cunanan’s obsession with Versace is that he sees them as equals, that they are the same person. The only difference is that Versace caught a lucky break.
This definitely adds something to the show so that this isn’t simply a retelling of a story people already know. Instead, the show is going to tell us a story we haven’t heard of before and that’s what makes this second season intriguing. In addition, we cannot wait to see Darren Criss in his role as Cunanan, especially after seeing the trailer. Criss appears to be giving the performance of his career, another reason we will be tuning in.
This also includes the other members of the cast, we pointed out Darren Criss because his role was prominently displayed in the trailer. However, the cast includes Oscar winner Penélope Cruz and Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Édgar Ramírez. It’s an all-star lineup so needless to say these performances are going to be ones to remember.
