Longmire season 6 key art brings everything full-circle

Longmire season 6 photos

Longmire fans, the end of the long wait is near! In just one week’s time the sixth and final season is going to premiere on Netflix and in preparation of that, we’ve got the latest key art for you to check out! It’s exciting, but it may also make you emotional.

If you look below, you can take a look at what we personally feel to be a very cool promotional image — there haven’t been many for the final season, but this helps to make up for it. It features Robert Taylor’s title character at the center, surrounded by bullet holes and with the tagline of “the final showdown.” This is obviously meant to harken back to the days of the Old West, which is thematically one of the many things that this series does very well. It invokes Old West imagery and sentiments better perhaps than almost any other show out there — at least out of those that are not actually set in that era.

There is one other part of this key art that dips heavily into nostalgia: The pose for Walt Longmire. With his head cocked down you have a similar pose to some of the original key art (also see below) for when the show was on A&E. This is another trademark for the character and the series; it is a reminder that Walt is more than just a man and he understands that — he represents something so much bigger than himself. Walt is an imperfect man, but one committed to the job and doing the right thing. Not all heroes wear capes; sometimes they serve under the radar in Wyoming and do everything they can to not make a name for themselves. Walt is this man — he’s stoic, he values the simple life, and he’s heartfelt. He doesn’t need acclaim or praise.

For those of you who really want to read the tea leaves of this key art, maybe you can get excited about one specific Walt fashion choice. He’s wearing the Sheriff’s vest! That has to mean that he didn’t lose his job, right? This is at least our hope. Whether or not our hope becomes reality though, is something we will find out in just one more week. (Remember, Walt felt the walls closing in on him at the end of season 5 because of the wrongful death lawsuit.)

What do you want to see on Longmire season 6?
